A Pseudo-Infinite Multimedia Storage System

Despite the ever-growing sizes of disks, multimedia files (e.g., videos) promise to quickly consume all such space and demand more. In this project we investigate ways to store nearly infinite amounts of multimedia files on a given storage system. This is achieved by successively re-encoding video files to lower bit-rates, smaller resolutions, and other parameters --- thus reducing the sizes of these files while minimizing user-perceived reduction in quality. A set of policies controls which files will get their size reduced, or even deleted, based on user preferences, frequency and recency of viewing, and more.
